Week 8 Daily Chance Camp Challenges

Daily Chance Camp Challenges
Rugby - Week 8
This week we will look at skills from Invasion games. We are using rugby but feel free to be creative and try with different sports.

11 May 2020
Trick the defender - Side Step

The ball carrier goes one way, the defender moves that way, then the ball carrier quickly goes the other way before the defender can change. So all the ball carrier has to do is convince the defender of one thing, then do the other. What you need to do, then, is teach the player to lie.

Challenge: Set up a continuous course with objects as defenders (or use family members) and work on your side step. The closer the objects/defenders the tougher the challenge and more coordination needed. How many laps can you complete before tired legs or brain leads to unsuccessful attempts?

Passing for a Strike

Passing Tips
Passing starts from your legs and builds up, therefore it is important to have a strong, balanced base. Your hips should be opened towards the target so you can push your hands through to finish at the target. Having a wider grip will allow you to have more control over the ball for distance and accuracy.

The Challenge - static passing for a strike

Can you set up some skittles using cones, juice bottles or plastic milk bottles etc. From a distance of your choice can you knock them all down in one pass? Try from your right and left side.

Progression
Increase the distance of the pass
Passing while running

Don’t forget we love to hear how you are getting on just drop us a comment, photo or video on our Facebook page. Awards are presented every Friday.

13 May 2020
You will need to use objects or a family member to make your defender. Be creative and try different balls.

Challenge - Chip and Chase
How many times can you kick the ball up in the air, over your object or defender and make a catch?

Harder Challenge
Use a real life defender who is allowed to move.
Try using your non dominant foot.

Easier Challenge
Just try to chip kick and catch.
Let the ball bounce before you catch it.

14 May 2020
Today’s theme within invasion games is your ability to throw a dummy and grubber kick.
Try this with lots of different sized balls and shapes.

Tips
Dummy pass

Run towards the defender holding the ball in both hands and make the passing motion but at the last moment do not release the ball. Timing is vital. The defender will be drawn to the pass, draw the ball back into your chest and accelerate off the leg you were passing across, going in the other direction.

Grubber Kick
The ball is then kicked along the ground trying to bounce up at an intended target. Drop the ball from waist height onto your foot. The top of the foot or the instep is used to kick the ball. Have good balance on your support leg and make sure your kicking foot is pointing at the intended target.

The Challenge - After the dummy can you grubber kick between 2 defenders into a target zone and collect to score.

Set up a defender, be creative with objects or use a family member! Set out a square using cones or objects for your target area, be creative with how you add the defenders.

Progression
Use a moving defender
Can you do it with both feet?

Making the challenge easier
Just practice the dummy or grubber Kick stand alone.
Make the target area bigger

Don’t forget we love to hear how you are getting on just drop us a comment, photo or video on our Facebook page. Awards are presented every Friday and you can check all our past challenges on our website.
